Archaeology Professor Dr. Heather McKillop reviews Mel Gibson's movie, Apocalypto, on the ancient Maya

Professor Heather McKillop published an article “Apocalypto and the Ancient Maya: To Entertain or to Educate?” in 2024. With her expertise in Maya archaeology, McKillop developed a course at LSU “Ancient Maya in the Media,” in which students watch, discuss, and write reviews of documentary-style movies about the ancient Maya. She is teaching the course this spring 2024 semester and students will be watching Apocalypto at the end of the course. McKillop’s article on the movie Apocalypto was published in A Critical Companion to Mel Gibson, edited by Adam Barkman and Antonio Sanna, pp. 213-231. Lexington books, Rowan & Littlefield, Laham, MD.
