Pre-DE Program

Math

We're excited to offer a College Readiness in Mathematics Certification for high school students who successfully complete our Algebra 2 pilot program. This program is designed to give students the skills they need for future math DE courses and college math courses on campus. Additionally, we have plans to introduce Algebra I and Geometry courses in the upcoming years.

To enhance the existing Pre-DE Algebra 2 course, we've integrated LSU Class Notes and LSU Videos. This course is delivered through MyMathLab and includes additional activities suitable for both classroom use and independent learning outside of MyMathLab. It fully aligns with the Louisiana Mathematical Standards and covers various topics, including:

  • Systems of Equations
  • Exponents, Polynomials, and Polynomial Functions
  • Rational Expressions
  • Rational Exponents, Radicals, and Complex Numbers
  • Quadratic and Higher Degree Equations and Functions
  • Exponential and Logarithmic Functions
  • Sequences and Series
  • Trigonometric Functions and Identities
  • Statistics

Please note that, because the Algebra 2 course isn't a dual enrollment course, high school teachers have the flexibility to adjust the order and content of assignments, quizzes, and tests. At the end of the course, we will conduct a certification test in MyMathLab. Students who achieve a score of 70% or higher on this test will earn a Certificate of College Readiness in Mathematics.

To join the program, high school teachers must hold LSU DE or Pre-DE certification and teach at a high school offering LSU math dual enrollment. Additionally, we hold a Pre-DE workshop each summer to certify teachers for the upcoming year. During this workshop, teachers will gain a deeper understanding of the course content, pedagogy, and specific objectives for the certification test. They will also have the opportunity to connect with fellow participating teachers and establish a professional network. While there is no cost for the summer workshop, students will need a $40 MyMathLab access code.

In the future, we plan to introduce similar additional resources to our Pre-DE Algebra 1 and Geometry courses.
