March 24, 2026

Roger and Dianne Gorsha
From the bayous of Morgan City to the halls of LSU, Roger and Dianne Gorsha’s lifelong love for Louisiana’s natural beauty has inspired a legacy that will shape the future. The LSU College of the Coast & Environment is honored to announce the new Roger A. Gorsha & Dianne M. Fangue Gorsha Endowed Scholarship. This generous gift will support generations of students dedicated to protecting and restoring our state’s unique coastal environments.
Honoring a Legacy of Dedication
Roger’s and Dianne’s lives’ have always been intertwined with Louisiana’s culture and fragile coastal ecosystems. Roger, a 1964 LSU graduate in engineering, built a successful career with leading technology companies, culminating in his retirement from IBM in Austin, Texas. Known for his integrity and commitment, Roger never lost sight of his Louisiana roots. He and Dianne, equally devoted her Louisiana roots, have been steadfast advocates for community engagement and environmental awareness. Together, they raised a family grounded in these values and have long recognized the importance of supporting the next generation of scientists, policymakers, and community leaders.
Inspired by Water and Land
Growing up in Morgan City, Louisiana, Roger and Dianne were surrounded by winding bayous, lush swamps, and vibrant marshlands. Childhood adventures with their fathers—hunting, fishing, and trapping—instilled in them a deep appreciation for the region’s beauty and biodiversity. As adults, their curiosity led them to explore the underwater world through SCUBA diving in the Caribbean, where they witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of warming waters on coral reefs and marine life. These experiences deepened their commitment to environmental stewardship.
From Bayous to Benefactors
The Roger A. Gorsha & Dianne M. Fangue Gorsha Endowed Scholarship will provide vital financial support to undergraduate and graduate students in the College of the Coast & Environment, with a preference for graduates of Morgan City High School. By easing the financial commitment of higher education, the scholarship empowers talented students to pursue their dreams, conduct innovative research, and gain hands-on experience essential for protecting Louisiana’s coast.
Dean Clint Willson of the College of the Coast & Environment expressed deep gratitude for the Gorshas’ visionary investment: “We can’t thank Roger and Dianne enough for their incredible generosity. Their scholarship is going to make a real difference to our students – helping them realize their dreams and become the next leaders in coastal and environmental sciences. It’s gifts like this that keep LSU at the cutting edge, and it means even more coming during LSU Giving Day 2026. We’re truly grateful for their vision and commitment to our college and to Louisiana.”
A Lasting Impact
The Gorshas’ gift comes at a pivotal moment, as Louisiana faces unprecedented environmental challenges—from land loss and sea level rise to hurricanes and habitat degradation. By investing in the education of future leaders, the Roger A. Gorsha & Dianne M. Fangue Gorsha Endowed Scholarship ensures that LSU graduates are prepared to develop innovative solutions and champion the sustainable management of our coastal resources.
