The mission of the LSU Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness is to generate and extend knowledge through research and educational programs that deliver relevant farm and agribusiness management, marketing, finance, and policy information and enable the use of economic principles in the business decision process.


Louisiana Summary Agriculture and Natural Resources

This book highlights the great value of agriculture in Louisiana. It focuses on the animal, forestry, fisheries, plant and wildlife commodities that comprise our vital agricultural industry. This industry continues to contribute significantly to the state’s economy and has the potential for increased contributions through value-added processing. Historical Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for Louisiana Regions

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) measures the overall economic activity for the state. Louisiana parishes generated over $258 billion in GDP in 2021. When adjusted for inflation, Louisiana parishes have collectively recovered to almost 93 percent of their pre-pandemic (2019) GDP level by the end of 2021.
