Near the end of 2017, LSU College of Engineering graduate Darren Moran was awarded the ScottishPower Foundation Scholarship in Spain. Moran, who is originally from Scotland, applied for the graduate program scholarship with a recommendation from John Scalzo, senior instructor in the Division of Electrical & Computer Engineering.

Moran was asked to fly to Spain to receive the award, which was presented to him by King Felipe VI of Spain.

“It was a huge honor to be recognized by the king and the chief executive officer of Iberdrola, and I was delighted that my time at LSU and Strathclyde had enabled such an occasion to take place,” Moran said.

The ScottishPower Foundation Scholarships are for master’s studies in energy and the environment in the United Kingdom or Spain. The foundation “aims to help train a new generation of professionals capable of driving the transformation towards a sustainable energy model through the International Scholarship Program.”

The program, which started in 2010, helps young people from the United States, UK, Brazil, Mexico, and Spain as they pursue their postgraduate courses at universities in the UK, Spain, and US.
