The application deadline is January 14, 2005. We recommend that you submit your materials well before the deadline and verify that everything has been received by our office.

Review

Once we have received all of your materials, we will review your application. Students who meet the eligibility criteria and submit extraordinary application packages will be chosen to continue in the selection process.

We plan to mail decision letters by January 26, 2005.

Selection Weekend

If you are chosen to continue in the selection process, you and your parent(s) or guardian will be invited to an intensive two-day interview process, during which you will learn more about the HHMI Professors Program and meet other applicants, current mentors, and program staff. You will attend several group interviews and participate in a group project as you decide if the HHMI Professors Program is right for you.

This year's Selection Weekend will be held February 25-26, 2005. Because of the unique style of our interview process, we are unable to accommodate interviews at any other time.

Final Selection

After meeting the candidates at Selection Weekend, the Selection Committee will make its final decisions based on the candidates' applications and interviews. The committee will choose a group of mentors who are not only highly qualified, but well-rounded as a group and who demonstrate the potential be happy and productive in the program. Because all of the candidates who attend Selection Weekend have great potential for success, the decisions of who will be offered appointment are extremely difficult.

All candidates who attended Selection Weekend will receive their final notification by March15, 2005.

Appointment

Candidates who receive offers of appointment have until April 15, 2005 to decide if they will accept the offer and become LSU HHMI Undergraduate Mentors. Offers of appointment for fall term, 2005 are contingent upon the successful completion of the OSI Summer Bridge Program, held from June 10 to August 4, 2005; receipt of candidates' final LSU transcripts from the 2004-2005 academic year; and candidates' continued concentration in a STEM discipline.
