The Louisiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Lab is a full-service AAVLD-accredited laboratory. Housed in the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, LADDL services the people of Louisiana and surrounding states by providing animal disease diagnostic services to agricultural and general communities. LADDL enhances research development and adaptation of diagnostic tests and protocols, researches and investigates livestock and companion animal diseases impacting the health and wellbeing of the animals and citizens of Louisiana, and researches selective diseases impacting the economics on the animal industries of Louisiana. 

LADDL operates in partnership with Louisiana State University, the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, Louisiana veterinarians, and livestock and poultry producers. LADDL also provides support for the teaching and research programs of LSU Vet Med. 

Emerging Bovine Influenza Event

Federal Order Requiring Testing for and Reporting of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in Livestock - Mandatory Testing for Interstate Movement of Lactating Dairy Cattle

Prior to interstate movement, lactating dairy cattle are required to receive a negative test for Influenza A at an approved National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN) laboratory, of which LSU Diagnostics (LADDL) is a member. The test must be conducted within seven (7) days of interstate movement. For groups of animals less than 30, all animals are to be tested. For groups of animals greater than 30, only 30 must be tested.


Sample collection guidance for submission of milk to LSU  Diagnostics:

  • Collect a total of 3-10 ml of milk from individual lactating dairy cows ensuring each quarter is sampled.
  • Combine the milk from each quarter into one sample and place in a 15 ml conical tube, red top vacutainer tube, or similar collection tube.
  • Ship overnight on ice in an insulated container
  • On the LADDL Diagnostic Submission Form please include the Premise ID and add the test code MAIMS in the Molecular Diagnostic Section /Other

The entrance is on River Road near Skip Bertman Drive.

LADDL will be closed on Friday, March 29, 2024, for the Good Friday holiday.


Weekend coverage

includes essential but limited services within the bacteriology laboratory.

Necropsy services

are available on Saturdays provided the animal arrives before 10:00 AM on Saturday.
