Mark Twain, in "Life on the Mississippi," described the steamboat commerce from 1830 to 1870 on the river before more modern ships replaced the steamer.

The Gulf-South Summit is offering conference scholarships in the form of hotel accommodations and/or registration. The Gulf-South Summit Scholarship Committee, chaired by Roger Henry, with the approval of the conference coordinator, is responsible for deciding who receives scholarships and how much is awarded.
