Mental health struggles can feel isolating, but seeking support is a courageous step. At LSU, we want to see you succeed, on campus and beyond.

The LSU Mental Health Support Fund provides financial assistance related to the care and treatment of mental health issues. Existing bills and receipts can be considered in the application for funding.

How to Apply & Award Amounts

  • The maximum amount of the total award is $500. Students may submit for smaller amounts for different instances; the maximum amount of the total awarded amount for any student will remain $500.
  • Available funds are limited and will be administered on a case-by-case basis. If approved, you will be notified about next steps of the funding process.
  • Decisions regarding distributions from the LSU Mental Health Support fund are made on a case-by-case basis by a designated representative.
  • Therapy services available in Mental Health Service of the LSU Student Health Center are completely covered by the Student Health Fee. Psychiatric and other services received in the Medical Clinic of the Student Health Center are subject to insurance billing or private pay costs through the partnership with Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. If these are the costs being submitted for funding, the applicant must first inquire about the Financial Assistance offering from Our Lady of the Lake for those services.

  • Applicant must be a currently enrolled (undergraduate or graduate) at Louisiana State University and A&M College (Baton Rouge) and have financial costs directly associated with mental health care or treatment.
  • The Student Health Center Fee is only eligible for consideration of reimbursement for the Summer semester with an Option to Buy Fee ($105); students enrolled part-time in Summer or who were enrolled full-time in Spring and are enrolled full-time in upcoming Fall semester.
  • Applicant must be degree seeking; non-matriculating students are not eligible.
  • Applicant must be able to provide sufficient documentation of the financial burden (see examples below).
  • If costs being submitted for reimbursement through this funding are related to services received at LSU Student Health Center, applicant must submit proof of application results from the Financial Assistance offered by Our Lady of the Lake Health.

Applicants may include any of the following bills, invoices, or receipts, but not limited to:

  • Bills associated with off-campus Inpatient hospitalization or off-campus out-patient mental health treatment
  • Bills associated with off-campus psychiatric medication management visits
  • Bills associated with psychotropic medication costs
  • Estimates or invoices for off-campus psychological testing services
  • For Summer applicants, proof of payment of $105 Option to Buy Fee from Workday.
  • DO NOT submit any PHI (protected health information) in the form of therapy session notes, testing results reports etc. Only receipts, invoices, or billing statements for services/items are needed.
  • If costs being submitted for reimbursement through this funding are related to services received at LSU Student Health Center, applicant must submit proof of application results from the Financial Assistance offered by Our Lady of the Lake Health.

The LSU Mental Health Support Fund was established through grant funding issued through the Louisiana Board of Regents and Louisiana Department of Health.

This fund is used for limited financial assistance when students have a financial burden related to treatment of mental health issues they are experiencing.

Funds will be administered on a case-by-case basis.
