Frequently Asked Questions

Orientation is a required program designed for all incoming students. During the one-day session, you will work with Orientation Leaders and academic advisors who will help you select your classes and register for courses.

You will meet with representatives from your academic senior college, register for classes, and get your student ID. You will also have a chance to learn about many campus groups and offices.

Yes. As a new student entering LSU, the mandatory new student orientation program will give you an opportunity to learn more about LSU, meet your fellow classmates, and schedule classes. We believe that success during your first semester will set the tone for your future.

Dress is casual. We will be indoors and outdoors; don’t forget to bring an umbrella if rain is in the forecast! Some rooms are cooler than others, so dress accordingly.

If you are interested in changing your major, it is very important you do so before arriving at orientation. Email us at admissions@lsu.edu. If you change your major on the day of your scheduled session, we will make accommodations with one of our advisors to help you get scheduled for classes.

LSU offers opportunities to receive course credit and placement based on work completed in high school. Students wishing to take placement tests to test out of certain courses, should contact the Office of Assessment and Evaluation to schedule their exam(s) a minimum of three days prior to their scheduled orientation. The number is 225-578-1145.

Some meals may be included at our orientation programs. However, please bring enough money to purchase additional meals at the many dining options available on or near campus. Meals are not included at our transfer orientation programs.
