Position Description:

The School of Education (SoE) in the College of Human Sciences and Education (HSE) at Louisiana State University (LSU) invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track Assistant, Associate, or Professor of Science Education or STEM Education with an emphasis in Science Education. The ideal candidate would possess a minimum of two years of experience teaching science at the elementary and/or secondary levels as well as experience teaching post-secondary methods courses to undergraduates. The candidate should be committed to participating in SoE’s heavily field-based teacher preparation programs and be committed to working with diverse populations in urban, suburban, and/or rural settings. This individual will also have a well-articulated, cohesive research agenda and publication record in science teaching and learning at the elementary or secondary level, or the potential for a coherent research and publication agenda. The individual will possess excellent pedagogical skills in face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses and a willingness to teach, support, and mentor graduate students in science education. We welcome applicants who have a proven record of securing grants or potential in obtaining grants. At LSU, collaboration is highly valued and fostered, thus evidence of working relationships with science faculty as well as other fields and local educational agencies is preferred. We seek a colleague who is interested in expanding our current programming to reach a diverse student body in new and innovative ways.

Responsibilities:

Conduct scholarly research; teach undergraduate and graduate classes; advise graduate students; direct theses and dissertations; seek external support for scholarly activities aimed at building an externally funded research program; and perform service to the school, college, university, and profession.

Qualifications:

- Earned doctorate in STEM education and/or science education or closely related field from an accredited university

- Minimum of two years documented teaching experience at the K-12 level

- Experience teaching science education courses at the undergraduate level

- Understanding of current issues and trends impacting science education, including the implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards at the K-12 level

- Demonstrated commitment to developing and teaching online courses and mentoring graduate students

- Publication record or potential publication agenda in STEM and/or science education research journals and presentations at national/international science meetings.

- If applying at Associate or Professor level, previously earned tenure & promotion to the rank of associate or full professor from an accredited university
