October 13, 2026

BATON ROUGE – LSU has named Dr. Anna Bartel Associate Vice Provost for Data & Strategic Analytics.
In the role, Bartel will lead LSU’s institutional research, data management and strategic analytics efforts. She will help guide the university’s use of data, strengthen governance and quality, and ensure leaders have reliable information to make informed decisions.
The Office of Data & Strategic Analytics will play an important role in LSU’s pursuit of becoming a top 50 research university. By aligning institutional research, data management and analytics, the office will help LSU measure progress against peer institutions, identify opportunities for investment and assess the impact of major initiatives.
The office will build on its existing work by expanding access to reliable metrics and dashboards, supporting responsible data access and translating complex analysis into clear, useful information for academic and administrative leaders.
Bartel brings 15 years of experience at LSU to the position. She began her LSU career in the Office of the University Registrar and later spent eight years in the Office of Academic Affairs before joining the Office of Data & Strategic Analytics.
In her current work, Bartel has helped develop LSU’s enterprise data governance framework and led the creation of the LSU Data Navigator, an AI-powered tool designed to help university employees navigate institutional data access. She also has led analytical work related to institutional benchmarking, workforce outcomes, student success and other university priorities.
“LSU has ambitious goals, and data will play an important role in how we measure progress and make decisions along the way,” said Joseph Messina, Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs & Provost. “Dr. Bartel knows the institution, knows the work and knows how to bring people together to get it done.”
Bartel earned her Ph.D. in Educational Research and Leadership, master’s degree in Political Science, and bachelor’s degree in International Studies from LSU.
