Left facing Crescent Moon, The Lady in the Moon, Palm Tree, Conch Shell, and PearlsLambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. is the first and largest Latina-based sorority in the United States, founded in 1975 at Kean University by 17 women dedicated to academic excellence, political engagement, and community uplift. Grounded in the principles of Unity, Love, and Respect, LTA fosters leadership, cultural awareness, and lifelong sisterhood.
The Eta Iota Chapter, established at Louisiana State University in Fall 2024, continues this legacy by creating an inclusive and empowering environment for women of all backgrounds. Members are actively involved in service, scholarship, and advocacy efforts that support both the LSU campus and the greater Baton Rouge community. LTA proudly supports St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as its national philanthropy, raising awareness and funds to advance pediatric cancer research and ensure families never receive a bill for treatment. The chapter also uplifts the Lambda Theta Alpha Foundation, which provides scholarships, educational initiatives, and community‑based programs that promote equity and opportunity.
Through cultural programming, service initiatives, and leadership development, the Eta Iota Chapter remains committed to uplifting marginalized voices and advancing LTA’s mission of scholarship, service, and sisterhood.
