LSU Communication across the Curriculum exists with one primary mission: helping students enhance their communication skills. This includes writing, speaking, visual, and technological communication as well as supporting both specific academic fields and communication skills development that transcends a class or discipline. Located in several physical spaces across campus, LSU CxC also offers web-based services to students, faculty, staff and visitors. 

Team members, while specializing in a few modes or areas, are expected to be knowledgeable about the breadth of CxC programming so that they can best represent the program and direct students, faculty and staff to the appropriate support. LSU CxC Student Team Members are skilled communicators, enthusiastic experimenters, and passionate supporters of their fellow LSU undergraduates. They support other students in developing strong communication skills needed to achieve personal, academic, and professional goals.

As a program focused on communication, we also rely on effective team communication across projects and locations in order to provide excellent service to the LSU student population. Undergraduate Team Positions

The Studio Operations Specialist is often the first and last person a client encounters at CxC—and that matters. You'll create a welcoming, professional environment while connecting students, faculty, and staff with the resources they need. This role offers real, resume-building experience in client services, professional communication, and studio operations in a collaborative academic setting.

This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in communication, education, business, public relations, or any field where interpersonal skills and professionalism make a difference (spoiler: that’s all fields). Students from any major are encouraged to apply.

What You'll Do

Client Services & Consultation

  • Welcome clients, assess their needs, and connect them with appropriate CxC resources, staff, or services
  • Conduct one-on-one consultations in person, by phone, or via email to understand client needs and troubleshoot issues with appointments, studio resources, or checked-out equipment
  • Serve as a knowledgeable ambassador for CxC programs (could include table sits, tours, presentations), clearly explaining available resources to a wide range of audiences

Studio Operations

  • Execute opening and closing procedures and maintain a clean, organized, and event-ready studio environment
  • Manage equipment check-in/check-out procedures, maintain accurate inventory, and follow up with clients regarding overdue items
  • Assist clients with using in-studio resources such as the photo documentation space or the sound booth
    Set up, participate in, and break down for studio events

Communication & Team Coordination

  • Follow CxC communication protocols to maintain continuity of service across shifts and keep the team informed
  • Accurately relay client needs and feedback to appropriate full-time staff members
  • Represent CxC professionally in all interactions, supporting the program's reputation as a university-wide academic excellence resource

CxC Media Production Specialists are peer consultants who help fellow LSU students and faculty tackle audio and video projects—from the earliest stages of planning all the way through editing and delivery. You don't need to be an expert to thrive here; you need to be curious, creative, and genuinely excited about learning and teaching audio-visual communication.

You'll be part of a collaborative team that supports every major and college at LSU. Depending on your interests and growth in the role, you may lead how-to workshops for classes, develop instructional resources, or take on special production projects. Students interested in film, journalism, mass communication, music, education, marketing, or any field where multimedia storytelling matters will find this role particularly valuable—but all majors are encouraged to apply.

  • Help clients identify the right tools, techniques, and workflows for their specific communication goals
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource on podcast production, video recording and editing best practices, and emerging AV communication strategies

Content & Resource Development

  • Develop instructional materials, guides, and how-to resources related to audio and video capture and delivery
  • Research and document best practices in podcast production, video recording, editing, and presentation
  • Present workshops or demos for classes on AV tools and techniques

Equipment & Studio Operations

  • Prepare equipment and recording spaces for client use
  • Follow check-in/check-out procedures and maintain accurate equipment inventory
  • Edit audio and video content using tools such as Audacity, Adobe Audition, Adobe Premiere, or comparable software

CxC Multimodal Communication Specialists provide one-on-one coaching to fellow LSU students and faculty across all modes of communication. Specialists will focus on multiple areas of communication —written, spoken, or visual communication—and are expected to understand the full scope of CxC programming and support general studio operations.

  • Coach clients on spoken communication for live and recorded contexts—presentation delivery, vocal tone and pacing, poster presentations, pitches, and podcast production

  • Tailor feedback to each client's discipline, genre, and goals; connect clients to other resources when their needs go beyond the scope of a coaching session

The Office Coordinator keeps the day-to-day operations of the CxC main office running smoothly. Graduate Assistantships

The Graduate Assistant for Graphic Design, Marketing & Social Media supports CxC's communications strategy through graphic design, digital content creation, social media, photography, videography, and event support. You'll help tell the CxC story across platforms—designing promotional materials, maintaining a content calendar, and capturing events through photo and video.

This position offers hands-on experience in a professional communications environment and is well-suited for graduate students pursuing careers in marketing, communications, graphic design, media, or related fields.

Position Type: Graduate Assistant enrolled full-time in a non-terminal graduate degree program
Compensation: Receives waiver for tuition, non-resident fee (if applicable), all other associated fees with enrollment (with the exception of professional program fees), and a 75% health insurance waiver.

Responsibilities

Graphic Design (35%)

  • Design and schedule digital advertisements for a variety of internal platforms, including digital signage, myLSU banners, Union TV screens, residence hall screens, and college-specific displays
  • Develop both evergreen/general audience content and deadline-specific or event-specific materials
  • Create college-specific graphics in alignment with departmental and university brand standards
