MEDIA ADVISORY: Commemorating 10 Years of Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative Science in Louisiana

11/03/2020
BATON ROUGE – On November 10, Louisiana Sea Grant at LSU – as part of the Sea Grant Oil Spill Science Outreach Team – will host an event to honor the unique contributions of Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative, or GoMRI, to research, recovery and resilience in the state of Louisiana over the past decade.

The Sea Grant Oil Spill Science Outreach team invites the media to learn about GoMRI’s 10-year mission to “investigate the impacts of the oil, dispersed oil and dispersant on the ecosystems of the Gulf of Mexico” and hear more about how that knowledge has been put to use in the state.

Experts from LSU, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, GoMRI, Gulf of Mexico Alliance and others will present. The virtual event will highlight:
  • GoMRI founding, structure and governance
  • Value of increased scientific funding and research in Louisiana
  • Advancements in oil spill science and its significance to the state of Louisiana
  • Personal stories about the impacts of GoMRI
  • Testimonials from members of Louisiana’s emergency response community on the importance of scientific communication
