LSU Names Senior Internationalization Officer and Executive Director for International Programs

BATON ROUGE - The LSU Office of Academic Affairs has named Samba Dieng as the new senior internationalization officer and executive director of International Programs. Dieng is currently the director of International Students and Scholars within the Office of International Affairs at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. Dieng will begin his role at LSU on January 1.

LSU Office of Academic Affairs has named Samba Dieng as the new senior internationalization officer and executive director.

“We are very excited to welcome Mr. Samba Dieng to LSU as the senior internationalization officer and executive director of the Office of International Programs,” said Matt Lee, vice provost of the Office of Academic Affairs who is also currently serving as the interim executive director for International Programs. “With his extensive experience in this area, he brings a wealth of ideas to advance the overall internationalization and globalization effort at LSU.”

Dieng has over 12 years’ experience working with international programs including university compliance with federal immigration regulations pertaining to international students and scholars, integrating international communities on U.S. campuses, exchange visitor programs, international undergraduate and graduate recruitment and international strategic planning for student mobility.

"The creation of an SIO position is a great step in the right direction and I am looking forward to expanding upon the work that has been done over the years to build a global footprint for LSU both locally and internationally,” said Dieng. “I am very happy to be joining the LSU family."

Dieng has a Master of Science in political science and international relations from Indiana State University and received his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. In conjunction with his previous positions, Dieng served as chair of Minnesota International Educators (MIE), a member of the Association of International Educators Trainer Corps program, and most recently as the region VIII Coach for the NAFSA Academy.

Dieng and his family are from Dakar, Senegal, where he was raised before embarking on a journey for higher education in the United States. Dieng’s pastimes are reading, watching basketball, traveling the world and learning about other cultures.
