LSU Domestic Violence Awareness Vigil & Kinnedy Smith Tree Dedication

11/09/2020
BATON ROUGE – LSU is hosting a domestic violence awareness vigil on Wednesday, Nov. 11, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. that will be live-streamed through LSU Student Government’s Facebook page. Members of the LSU community are invited to join to take a moment to bring awareness to and acknowledge the impact of domestic violence within the community.

The vigil will be held at the newly dedicated Kinnedy Smith live oak, located directly in front of the LSU Women’s Center. On Wednesday, Oct. 21, this oak was dedicated to the memory of Kinnedy Smith, a recent LSU graduate and victim of domestic violence, in a private ceremony with her family, friends, and co-workers from Dudley DeBosier Injury Lawyers.

“We have a well-defined list of core values, and we use those as a guide to how we navigate our day-to-day. One extremely important core value is to take care of our team. Our team was devastatingly affected by Kinnedy’s passing—those who knew and loved her, those her worked alongside and respected her, and those who were simply impacted by the nature of her death,” said Ashley Armstrong, Intake Attorney and Kinnedy’s supervisor. “Kinnedy's fresh outlook on life reminded everyone to chase their dreams and to never settle. I can still see the joy in her eyes mapping out the plans for her future and telling us where she wanted to end up next. We knew we had to do something to honor her memory and give our team something actionable to feel like they were part of a solution to prevent something like this from devastating another family.”
