LSU Students to Begin Moving Back to Campus Aug. 15

08/13/2020
BATON ROUGE – LSU is planning for a safe move-in experience for incoming students starting Aug. 15, with assigned times and days to minimize contact with other families and staff. More than 7,000 students will move onto campus from Aug. 15-23, and the university has several initiatives in place to make the experience as smooth and safe as possible for everyone.

“We’re thrilled to begin welcoming our students back to campus, and we can’t wait to see them again,” said Tom Galligan, LSU Interim President. “Because the health and safety of our students is our top priority, the move-in experience is going to be very different this year, but we’re confident the policies and procedures we’re putting in place will ensure that students get settled back into LSU in a safe and structured manner.”

Residence hall move in will take place Aug. 15-19, while those students living in on-campus apartments are scheduled to move in Aug. 20-23. Each student is allowed to bring two individuals total to assist with move-in. Groups with too many people will be asked to exit the staging area (located on River Road, Lot 412) and come back with the appropriate number of guests. Students and guests must get a wristband at the River Road staging area for entry into the residence halls and apartments.

Move in is part of LSU Welcome Week, the final phase of orientation to LSU. This exciting event takes place right before the semester begins so that students can be completely comfortable and prepared to start their experience at LSU.

Prior to arriving on campus, students are encouraged to read the Living on Campus Handbook for all policies and procedures, including coronavirus community standards. They can also view room assignment and roommates on the "My Details" tab in the myLSU housing portal.

Residential Life offers living-learning environments for first-year students traditional residence halls and nine residential colleges – Agriculture, Business, Engineering, Mass Communication, Science, Human Sciences & Education, Humanities & Social Sciences, Visual & Performing Arts and the Honors House. Upperclassmen live in one of three apartment complexes on campus, including a new Honors Living Learning Community launching this fall in East Campus Apartments. Year after year student living on campus as first-year students have higher GPAs, higher graduation rates, and higher retention to second year rates than their off-campus peers.

In addition, media members should wear face coverings when not more than six feet from others. The staging area for move in Aug. 15-19 is located at Lot 412 on River Road. Media are welcomed to get photos and footage at the staging area and outside of the residential communities.
