BATON ROUGE – Now, anyone who has earned an Amazon Web Services, or AWS, Certification can apply it for college credit toward an online degree at LSU, shortening the time to completion and the cost for online students. LSU Online & Continuing Education is quickly developing a robust portfolio of opportunities where students can apply credit for prior learning, either from professional certifications or military credit.

LSU Online also offers all students guaranteed admission to one of the following LSU campuses: LSU in Baton Rouge, LSU Alexandria or LSU Eunice. Personal enrollment concierges are available to help students craft a path that best suits their individual needs. Students can expect many options: LSU Online offers over 65 online degrees, certificates and MicroCred programs that stack together to help accelerate your career. For more information on how to apply credit toward an online degree with LSU, whether at the associate, bachelor’s or master’s level, please visit: online.lsu.edu/pla or call 833-280-5634.

Working professionals looking for a shorter, non-degree option should consider LSU Online’s micro-credentials, or MicroCred programs. LSU Online MicroCred programs are short-form programs designed for students to gain specific up-skilling or cross-skilling necessary to succeed in today’s professional environment. They are convenient and flexible, offered 100 percent online and most courses within each program can be completed in as little as four weeks. Popular MicroCred offerings include: DevOps, Business Project Management with Agile and a Management and Leadership Series. Many employers pay for professional development and degree programs, with little or no cost to employees.

“Our MicroCred programs provide working professionals with a high-quality learning experience in a convenient format online,” said Sasha Thackaberry, vice president of LSU Online & Continuing Education. “We are forging a new path that focuses on continually expanding the opportunities for mid-career professionals and non-traditional students to accelerate their career progression or assist in changing career paths.”

LSU Online will be launching new MicroCred programs developed with AWS Academy’s cloud computing curriculum that prepares students to pursue industry-recognized certifications and in-demand cloud jobs. AWS Academy courses contain curriculum developed and maintained by AWS and taught by AWS Academy accredited educators at LSU. These AWS Academy courses help students develop in-demand cloud computing skills by providing hands-on experience in the AWS Cloud and lessons based on actual industry scenarios. AWS Academy courses and learning resources are aligned to the industry-recognized AWS Certification.

“AWS Certified individuals have validated competency in AWS knowledge and skills, and we support the recognition of their achievements with college credit,” said Kevin Kelly, director of AWS Certification and Education Programs, Amazon Web Services, Inc. “IT professionals with cloud skills are in high demand, and we’re proud to help advance training and learning opportunities for students at LSU through programs such as AWS Academy.”

The first LSU Online Cloud Practitioner MicroCred with AWS Academy is scheduled to launch in June 2020, with more to follow.

“We understand the need for just-in-time business and technology training options through our department as employers look to upskill their employees,” said Andrew Schwarz, who is an LSU professor teaching the AWS Academy courses. “As a professor in the Flores MBA program, I am looking forward to this relationship with AWS and am excited to continue to innovate with the content and pedagogy that we are delivering to the next generation of executive leadership.”

LSU Online is releasing new MicroCred and degree programs, designed with students’ needs in mind to offer a “fully stackable” program so that students can take everything from short course MicroCred programs all the way up to graduate degrees with no credit wasted.

“The students in our Online Focused Flores MBA Program are often already well-accomplished in their careers, and the LSU degree truly prepares them to join the C-suite or similar leadership roles,” said Flores MBA Program Director Dana Hart. “They value the networking and advanced knowledge they gain from the program, and they’re often thrilled to hear that we also value the skills and knowledge they’ve already earned professionally as credit toward the degree, including military training, PMP certification and several financial industry certifications.”
