LSU Mechanical Engineering Faculty Marvel Honored by ASM International

Christopher Marvel receives the awardJanuary 24, 2024

BATON ROUGE, LA – LSU Mechanical Engineering Assistant Professor Christopher Marvel was recently selected as ASM International’s 2023 Bronze Medal Award recipient. The award is presented annually to ASM members who are early in their careers—10 years or less—for their significant contributions to “the field of materials science and engineering through technical content and service to ASM and the materials science profession.”

Marvel joined the LSU College of Engineering in Fall 2022 after previously working as a postdoctoral fellow and research scientist at Lehigh University. He also holds a bachelor’s and Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from Lehigh. Marvel’s research interests include grain boundary complexions, high entropy alloys, structural ceramics, nanocrystalline metals, additive manufacturing, atomic resolution electron microscopy, and grain growth simulations.

“I am very thankful to have received the honorable 2023 Bronze Medal,” Marvel said. “I have been fortunate to be supported by colleagues and mentors at ASM, LSU, and Lehigh. ASM International has helped me establish a career, and I look forward to continued involvement in the years to come.”

ASM International is the world’s largest and most established materials information society, connecting individuals and industry to a global network of peers and providing access to trusted materials information through reference content, data and research, education courses and international events, and helping to solve problems and improve materials-related outcomes.
