LSU ECE’s Veronis Elected Fellow of SPIE

January 31, 2023

Georgios VeronisBATON ROUGE, LA – LSU Electrical & Computer Engineering Professor Georgios Veronis was recently elected as one of 83 new Fellows of SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics. Fellows are members of the society who have made significant scientific and technical contributions in the multidisciplinary fields of optics, photonics, and imaging.

This year’s inductees represented a varied group of countries that include Australia, Belgium, China, France, Japan, Mexico, India, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and the United States. Veronis was recognized for specific achievements in the areas of nanoscale photonic circuits based on plasmonics and numerical algorithms for the simulation of nanophotonic structures.

Veronis joined LSU in 2008 and has a joint appointment with the LSU Center for Computation & Technology. He earned his master’s and PhD in electrical engineering from Stanford University prior to coming to LSU; and his research interests include the theory and simulation of photonic materials, nanoscale photonic devices, plasmonics, and computational electromagnetics. He also received the National Science Foundation CAREER Award in 2013.

About SPIE

SPIE brings engineers, scientists, students, and business professionals together to advance light-based science and technology. It was founded in 1955 and connects and engages with its global constituency through industry-leading conferences and exhibitions; publications of conference proceedings, books, and journals in the SPIE Digital Library; and career-building opportunities. Over the past five years, SPIE has contributed more than $22 million to the international optics community through its advocacy and support, including scholarships, educational resources, travel grants, endowed gifts, and public-policy development.
