LSU was ranked behind only the University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M University, the Colorado School of Mines, and the University of Oklahoma.

In other rankings, the College of Engineering mostly maintained its ranking from a year ago, finishing T-104 overall among best engineering programs that offer a doctorate or lower. LSU’s Computer Science program rose one spot to T-121 overall among programs that offer a doctorate or lower.

Methodology

USNWR’s Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs rankings are based solely on the judgments of deans and senior faculty at peer institutions. Respondents were asked to rate each program they were familiar with on a scale from one (marginal) to five (distinguished). There are separate rankings for the 212 undergraduate engineering programs at colleges or universities that offer doctoral degrees in engineering and the 230 engineering programs at institutions where the terminal degree is a bachelor’s or master’s.

Of those surveyed, the group whose terminal degree is a bachelor’s or master’s had a 35.2% response rate, and the doctoral group’s response rate was 53.5%.
