LSU Among Top 25 in Pair of Disciplines According to New Ranking

August 24, 2022

BATON ROUGE, LA – In a new series of rankings by Gizmodo—a design, technology, and science website—of the best universities within fields of study that it believes will define the 21st century, LSU was top-25 in the disciplines of energy engineering and environmental engineering.

In the field of energy engineering, LSU was ranked alongside Georgia Tech, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, Texas A&M, and Carnegie Mellon University, among others.

In the field of environmental engineering, LSU was ranked alongside Cornell University, Duke University, Johns Hopkins University, University of Florida, and University of Southern California, among others.

The goal of the Degrees of the Future 2022 rankings is “to provide guidance to students who are choosing a university in one of [25 important fields] and to recognize the universities doing the best job preparing those students for the future.”

Those 25 important fields fall under the broader categories of biology, computer science and IT, engineering and physics, medical and healthcare, social science, and interdisciplinary. The best 25 universities for each were then identified by Gizmodo and Statista, a company specializing in market and consumer data, based on:

  • Independent surveys among university employees, HR professionals and recruiters, students, and alumni.
  • Statistical data published by the U.S. government.
  • Bibliometric data indicating the impact of published scholarly papers by an institution in a particular field of study.
