de Queiroz Selected for NSF Cohort

Marcio de Queiroz headshotBATON ROUGE, LA – LSU Mechanical Engineering Professor Marcio de Queiroz has been selected as a participant in the National Science Foundation Game Changer Academies for Advancing Research Innovation 2022 cohort. de Queiroz is an ASME Fellow, the Roy O. Martin Lumber Company Professor of Mechanical Engineering, and coordinator of the Robotics Engineering Program at LSU.

This new effort is led by the Civil, Mechanical, and Manufacturing Innovation Division of the NSF Engineering directorate is aimed at “improving panel discussions, ameliorating a variety of forms of cognitive bias, and examining the meaning of high risk/high reward in an engineering context.” Upon completion of the program, participants will become Panel Fellows and assist program directors in “elevating the participation of all panelists and increasing the capacity of the panel to benefit from a diversity of expertise and experience.

Panel Fellows gain a better understanding of panel dynamics and funding decision processes, gain insight about proposal writing and peer reviews, and improve their own capacity to be funded through a deeper understanding of scholarly funding processes. Insights gained through Game Changer Academies may also be applied to faculty meetings, lab dynamics, and other scholarly interactions in academia.
