LSU College of Engineering to Hold Summer Programs

March 31, 2021

Three students with arms over eachothers shouldersBATON ROUGE, LA – The LSU College of Engineering will hold both virtual and on-campus summer programs for middle and high school students this summer.

Five on-campus courses will be offered by the college through LSU Pre-College, including the middle school programs Exploring STEM and eXploreCS Junior, as well as the high school programs eXploreCS High, Halliburton XCITE, REHAMS Engineering, Intro to Engineering, and Robotics.

These summer programs are made possible by support from Halliburton, Louisiana Economic Development (LED) and Shell. These one- and two-week courses will offer participants a unique opportunity to experience the collegiate life of an LSU student while exploring many different engineering or STEM disciplines.

While student safety is always a priority at LSU, COVID-19 has prompted the implementation of additional health and safety measures for all participants, including the following:

  • Face coverings will be required for all students and staff.
  • Temperature checks will be conducted each day before the student is allowed on campus.
  • All classrooms will be equipped with hand sanitizer and thoroughly cleaned once per day.
  • Class sizes will be limited and classrooms rearranged to ensure maximum social distancing.

With these safety measures in place, the college and LSU Pre-College hope that students can once again learn and interact safely in-person this summer.

The College of Engineering will also offer many of its courses in a virtual format. These will include Exploring STEM, Halliburton XCITE, REHAMS, and Intro to Engineering. The virtual programs offer the same academic rigor of on-campus courses but in the convenience and safety of home. Virtual courses are designed with student engagement in mind and feature live virtual class time each weekday, dedicated one-on-one and group support, and provide each student a mailed learning kit with course supplies.

These programs are offered as part of LSU Pre-College, which will host more than 20 on-campus and virtual courses this summer. Interested families are encouraged to register soon, as spots are limited. For a full list of course offerings and academic areas, visit LSU Pre-College Course Offerings.
