Students Honored During College of Engineering Spring Diploma Ceremony

Aerial view of the graduation ceremonyBATON ROUGE – More than 800 students from 23 different states and 35 different countries recently graduated from the LSU College of Engineering in a diploma ceremony held in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

Among those receiving their diplomas was Quinn Stiller, a native of Madisonville, La., who earned his bachelor’s in petroleum engineering. Stiller was recognized as the University and McLaughlin Medalist, which goes to the engineering student who graduates with the highest GPA. He finished with a 4.15 GPA.

Twenty-six engineering students, the most in any single college at LSU, received the Distinguished Communicator Award, which honors students who are outstanding in four areas of communication – written, spoken, visual, and technological. They are:

  • Olivia Derise, Biological Engineering – Lafayette, La.
  • Carlin Donart, Mechanical Engineering – Baton Rouge
  • Beatriz Garcia, Biological Engineering – Brusly, La.
  • Clayton James Guillory, Construction Management – Denham Springs, La.
  • Ross Hedges, Mechanical Engineering – Cypress, Texas
  • Aida Hendrickson, Mechanical Engineering – Gretna, La.
  • Breanna Lee, Chemical Engineering – Baton Rouge
  • Kloe Liner, Industrial Engineering – Patterson, La.
  • Kathleen Niedbalski, Mechanical Engineering – Baton Rouge
  • Giordan Pergola, Mechanical Engineering – Slidell, La.
  • Kyle Pizzuto, Mechanical Engineering – Pearl River, La.

  • Xinghao (Howard) Wang, Computer Science – Baton Rouge
     

The college also recognized its students who graduated from the Ogden Honors College. They are:

  • Kathleen Edwards, Mechanical Engineering – Abbeville, La.
  • Paulina Gonzalez-Quiroga, Chemical Engineering – Mandeville, La.
  • Kloe Liner, Industrial Engineering – Patterson, La.
  • Leah Sanders, Petroleum Engineering – Baton Rouge
  • Ross Teichman, Petroleum Engineering – Lafayette, Calif.
  • Wayne Wortmann III, Chemical Engineering – Slidell, La.

Additionally, four graduates were recognized as newly commissioned officers in the military – Grant Carrier, U.S. Army, Opelousas, La.; Sarah Mai, U.S. Air Force, Collierville, Tenn.; Khoa Nguyen, U.S. Air Force, New Orleans; and Michael Orgeron, U.S. Army, New Orleans.

Claire Like, a civil engineering graduate with a minor in structural engineering from Lake Charles, La., served as the commencement speaker.
