Announcing the Spring 2025 LSU Communicator Certificate Recipients
At the conclusion of the Spring 2025 semester, 186 students earned the LSU Communicator Certificate. This non-degree certificate, issued by the Office of Academic Affairs via LSU Communication Across the Curriculum (CxC), recognizes students who have successfully completed rigorous communication-intensive coursework within their disciplines. Since launching in Fall 2018, 1,417 students have earned the LSU Communicator Certificate. A full list of past recipients can be found at cxc.lsu.edu.
To earn the LSU Communicator Certificate, students must earn a B- or higher in a series of Communication-Intensive (C-I) courses that focus on a demonstrated competency in written, spoken, visual, and technological communication within the discipline. Following the completion of C-I coursework, the final step in earning the certificate is submitting a brief first-person narrative about the expertise gained through C-I assignments and the ways students anticipate applying these skills in their personal and professional lives moving forward. In these essays, students frequently express how critical this type of skills development has been to their college experience. Many have cited their experiences in C-I Courses as giving them newfound confidence in their abilities as communicators and as the catalyst to step outside of their comfort zones in pursuit of new opportunities, such as presenting at research conferences and writing for discipline-specific publications.
Here are a few examples of things students have said about their experience with C-I courses at LSU:
“The communication-intensive courses I took within this program challenged me to think critically about how complex ideas are conveyed, how to collaborate with others, and how to use language as a tool for connection. These experiences didn’t just teach me to speak or write more clearly, but they redefined how I think about acquiring knowledge and how to broadcast what I’ve learned to others.” —Psychology Student
“Each of my C-I experiences refined my capacity to communicate with clarity, creativity, and intention. Learning these skills has resulted in me being a braver public speaker, a more accurate writer, and a more considerate visual communicator.” —Mass Communication Student
“Before taking C-I courses, I had a strong fear of public speaking, but through practice, I’ve learned how to write more clearly, present more confidently, and work better in teams. These skills are going to be just as important as my technical knowledge in whatever job I take after college.” —Mechanical Engineering Student
“The communication skills I’ve developed at LSU have equipped me with the necessary tools to succeed in my future dietetics career. The ability to listen, empathize, and professionally present myself will serve me well in the diverse, fast-paced world of community nutrition. I’m confident that these skills will not only help me navigate my career but will also help me connect with those I serve, making a lasting impact in their lives.” —Nutrition & Food Sciences Student
