About:

Darian is the National Sales Manager for Chesapeake Spice Co., a privately held spice and seasoning manufacture in Belcamp, MD.  At Chesapeake Spice, Darian is responsible for sales to food manufactures ranging from meat processors, processed foods, snacks, and dressings and sauces.  Darian is a member of several food manufacturing associations including the Association of Dressing and Sauces, Research Chef’s Association, and the Refrigerated Foods Association, in which he has served on several boards and committees.  Darian’s previous roles include the National Sales Manager for Grande Custom Ingredients, Director of R&D/QA for The Reily Foods Co., Director of R&D/QA for Zatarain’s/McCormick, and R&D/QA Manager for Diversified Foods and Seasonings.  Darian has over 25 years of food manufacturing experience, is a veteran of the US Navy and LA Army National Guard, he currently resides in Slidell, La with his wife, two kids, and two dogs.  His hobbies are golf, LSU sports, and being in the outdoors.  

Darian chose LSU because it is the flagship university of the state and he grew up just 35 miles from campus in New Roads.  He has attended may LSU sporting events while growing up so close to campus, so it really was a no-brainer to chose LSU.  Darian was also the re-charting President of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity.

Job Responsibilities:

My current role is to sell seasoning and spices to various food manufactures throughout the US.  I also manage key accounts and manage new projects with our customers.  I have been in sales for 10 years.  Previously I have served roles as National Sales Manager, Director of R&D and QA, as well as an R&D project manager and QA manager. 

Favorite LSU Memory:

My favorite LSU memories are meeting my wife of 25 years and Saturday nights in Death Valley.

What advice do you have for current and prospective LSU Agriculture students?

College life is what you make it, get involved in various campus activities. Especially if you are far away from home, they can provide you with a good support group.  These organizations will help you develop friendships that will last a lifetime. They will also help you develop professionally, giving you leadership skills and understanding of how to work with various other people in team settings.
