More than 280 people participated in DiVersity Matters symposium

BATON ROUGE--The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine "DiVersity Matters" hosted a seminar on September 11 entitiled "Cultural Competency, Diversity and Inclusivity, an Imperative for our Multicultural Society" with more than 280 participants in lectures and workshops conducted by Dr. Patti Rose, an eminent scholar, author, teacher and international lecturer on the topic of cultural competency.


Dr. Richard Koubeck, the LSU Executive Vice President and Interim Provost, and Dr. Kenya Messer, Associate Vice Provost in the Office of Diversity, both provided opening remarks to the audience in the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine Auditorium. The participants included faculty and students from the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, as well as faculty, staff and students from the LSU Law School, Office of Strategic Initiatives, the LSU Health Science Center in New Orleans and as far away as the Auburn School of Veterinary Medicine.


Dr. Rose also conducted a workshop on Saturday, September 12 for 90 veterinary students on the topic of "Forgiveness for your Student Loans," which provided the students with skills to manage their loans and empower themselves in the process. Dr. Rose's enthusiasm for the topic of cultural competency and inclusivity was felt by all and she delivered a motivating message about its importance for the future success of our academic institutions.
