LSU School of Veterinary Medicine Confers 84 Degrees

The Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine conferred 84 Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees in an online ceremony at its 45th annual Veterinary Medicine Commencement on Monday, May 11. Go to https://www.facebook.com/LSUSVM/videos/2932841183656922 to view the ceremony online.

Shannon Dehghanpir, DVM (LSU SVM 2013), DACVP, assistant professor of clinical pathology in Veterinary Clinical Sciences, gave the commencement address. Joel Baines, VMD, PhD, dean, presided over the ceremony. Mary Leach Werner, representing the LSU Board of Supervisors, conferred the degrees. Trey Neyland, III (Class of 2021) opened the ceremony with the invocation. Program speakers also included Thomas C. Galligan, Jr., JD, LLM, interim president of the LSU System; and Jesse Brandon, DVM, president of the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association. Kohl Brandon, DVM (LSU SVM 2021) gave the benediction.

Emily Ruth McComas, of Fayetteville, Ark., received the Edward Lloyd Mitchell Memorial Award, The Hershey Comeaux Memorial Award of Excellence, an Oncology Certificate of Merit; and the Boehringer-Ingelheim Community Practice Award, and Rachel is going into small animal practice in Denton, Texas.

Karleigh Shaffer, of Hot Springs, Ark., received the Kaytee Outstanding Senior Award in Avian and Exotic Animal Medicine, and is going into small animal practice in Hot Springs, Ark.

Jacqueline Post, of Little Rock, Ark., received the Arkansas Veterinary Medical Foundation Outstanding Student Award and will begin a mixed animal internship in Tinton Falls, N.J.
