CBS Student Wins Paper of the Year

BATON ROUGE, LA - The Saini Lab at LSU School of Veterinary Medicine received Paper of the Year at the 2018 Society of Toxicology (SOT) Annual Meeting in San Antonio, March 11 - 15, 2018. The award was received by Brandon Lewis, a graduate student in the lab of Yogesh Saini, BVSc, MS, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Comparative Biomedical Sciences, during the “Immunotoxicology Specialty Section” reception.
The article entitled "Early Postnatal Secondhand Smoke (SHS) Exposure Disrupts Bacterial Clearance and Abolishes Immune Responses in Muco-obstructive Lung Disease" was published in the Journal of Immunology in 2017. This article was also featured “In This Issue" section of The Journal of Immunology. "In This Issue" highlights articles considered to be among the top 10% of articles published in the journal.
The research highlights interactions between indoor air pollution and developmental history of pediatric lung diseases such as cystic fibrosis (CF).
This project was a collaborative effort that incorporated many people within the School of Veterinary Medicine and illustrates the capabilities of the various facilities located within the institution.
This study was funded by the Flight Attendant Medical Research Institute, COBRE Pilot Project and the LSU Faculty Start-Up Package.
