Job Description: The Animal Clinic of Los Alamos has a part-time to full-time position available for a veterinarian interested in practicing small animal medicine and surgery in the mountains of northern New Mexico. Our town, nestled against the Jemez Mountains, is home to The Los Alamos National Lab and is bordered by the Santa Fe National Forest and Bandelier National Monument. Our unique setting provides year-round outdoor recreational opportunities, a clientele that expects the highest in animal care, and a small-town atmosphere unmatched in safety and opportunities for adults and children (http://www.visitlosalamos.org

Our practice has served Los Alamos County for over 30 years (www.aclapets.com). We currently have five part-time veterinarians, all of whom have practiced with us for at least 10 years. We're open from 7:30am until 5pm (M-F) and Saturday mornings. After-hour emergencies are referred to emergency clinics in Santa Fe.

Applicants must be proficient in small animal medicine, patient and client care, and client communication and education. Experience and proficiency at soft tissue surgery, non-plating orthopedic surgery, dentistry, and ultrasound are extremely desirable.

The prestigious Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) provides the base for the employment in our town and the surrounding areas. Our clients are extremely knowledgeable, care greatly for their pets, and expect the best veterinary care to be available for their pets. The relatively small size of our city/county (~18,000) allows us to know most of our clients on a personal basis.

The city/county consists of two main residential communities situated on fingerlike mesas extending from the Jemez Mountain. The city of Santa Fe is 40 minutes to the southeast and the city of Taos is an hour to the northeast. Albuquerque, which has the largest airport in New Mexico, is less than two hours to the south.

Los Alamos is neighbored by the San Ildefonso Pueblo and the Jemez Mountains, which includes  Valles Caldera National Park, Bandelier National Monument, and parts of the Santa Fe National Forest. Hiking, camping, skiing, fishing, and hunting are enjoyed in areas surrounding our town. Extensive trails throughout the city/county itself allow for beautiful hikes along the mesas and in the canyons that divide them. The Blue Whale, our Olympic-sized in-door pool, provides year-round swimming activities. An 18-hole golf course is available for golf enthusiasts. Our own Pajarito Ski area, located within 7 miles of the town site, provides skiing for beginners to double-diamond experts.

The public school system is ranked amongst the highest in the nation. Our small-town atmosphere provides a security that allows our children to easily take advantage of the extensive activities available to them, both within the school system and outside of it.

If you have a spouse also looking for employment, the Los Alamos National Lab (http://www.lanl.gov) is currently hiring and plans to fill up to 3000 positions over the next five years. Positions range from administrative and support staff to a wide-range of positions in scientific research.

If you are interested in practicing quality veterinary medicine in a small town surrounding by natural beauty and outdoor activities ideal for raising a family, please contact Dr. Bob Fuselier: (505) 662-6622.
