LSU Earns Disney College Program Distinction
BATON ROUGE – LSU students are finding a bit of career magic through the Disney College Program, at a rate of over 25 students per year. On Nov. 15, 2017, LSU “earned its ears” and was selected as a distinguished Disney College Program institution.
“The Disney College Program is a transformative opportunity for our students. In addition to gaining valuable work experience that an internship provides, students also expand their leadership abilities and cultural awareness while living and working with individuals from across the country and globe. We're grateful for the longstanding recruitment relationship between the LSU Olinde Career Center and the Disney College Program,” said Jesse Downs, Director of the LSU Olinde Career Center.
This creative take on an internship for credit provides students with the opportunity for hands-on work experience in Disney parks and resorts while receiving academic credit through personal and career development coursework.
The Disney College Program is not just a walk in the theme park; students are challenged to develop their leadership skills, network, and expand their skill set in problem-solving, communication and teamwork. These skills are critical competencies that prepare graduates for a successful transition from college to career, identified by employers through the National Association of Colleges and Employers.
In the 2017-2018 academic year, nine LSU students participated in the Disney College Program in the Fall and 12 students are already slated to participate in the Spring. Students come from a variety of majors across campus, including engineering, kinesiology, education, and communication.
