About the Vice President

Kurt J. Keppler, Ph.D.

Dr. Kurt J. Keppler serves as Vice President for Student Affairs at Louisiana State University and leads a division with departments including:

Prior to his appointment at LSU in 2010, Keppler was Vice President for Student Affairs at Valdosta State University, Associate Vice President and Dean of Students at Georgia State University, Associate Dean of Student Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University, and Assistant Director of Student Development at the University of Missouri. He held adjunct teaching positions at each institution and has taught leadership seminars and courses in group dynamics, organizational behavior, and leadership theory.

Keppler holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (B.S.) and University of Missouri (M.S., Ph.D.). He served as President of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (2005-06) and was named “Pillar of the Profession” by NASPA (2007). Through NASPA, he completed the Richard F. Stevens Institute, Academy for Leadership and Executive Effectiveness, and Harvard Management Development Program. He has been active in the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities’ Student Affairs Council and the Urban 20+ Senior Student Affairs Group and data exchange. 

Keppler has made more than 150 presentations at state, regional and national conferences and has consulted on more than 30 college campuses. He co-edited NASPA’s monograph, Partnering with Parents of Today’s College Students (Keppler, Mullendore & Carey, 2005).
