Benjamin Cornwell

Director of Disability Services

sketch of Mike the Tiger with text photo coming soon

I like knowing that I am able to help other people with disabilities get an education and opportunities for gainful employment.

The people who ran the Office of Disability Services when I was in college were invaluable to my success and to where I am now. They also gave me an opportunity to work for the office as a student worker and as a graduate assistant which allowed me to see and be part of the positive effect and changes which we make possible in the lives of students with disabilities.

Favorite campus spot

My favorite spot on campus is right across Tower Drive facing the Memorial Tower. Between my junior and senior year of high school in 1989, a couple of weeks before the spinal cord injury which left me paralyzed, I came to LSU for a photography workshop during which I did a photo collage of the Memorial Tower. I won an award for the collage. I still have the black-and-white negatives used to create the collage. Now that the Memorial Tower has been renovated, I hope to create a combined new collage using both old and new photos taken from the same location.

Blockbusters

My favorite movies are The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, and The Matrix

Best. Advice. Ever.

Keep trying and being creative when trying to get something done. Do not assume that you cannot because that is what is expected or what you've been told. And don't be too disappointed in situations where you do not succeed.

Education

MS, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center
