Update on Strategic Planning Process
April 01, 2022
Dear LSU Community,
A little over a month ago, 100 individuals from across the LSU Family—family, faculty, staff, students, and alumni, gathered at Pennington Biomedical Research Center for a two-day retreat focused on our shared Values and Vision. Prior to this, a survey was shared with our entire community and received more than 11,000 responses; results that provided a unique view of our strengths and weaknesses, and what we view as most import
ant to LSU and our community. This gathering was an important milestone in the development of our strategic plan, as it provided the time and space to collectively examine what is most important to us, who we are, and what we aspire to be.
From this retreat, a “Values and Vision” package has been delivered across the entire system including our deans, vice presidents, vice provosts, and unit leadership, to engage in small group discussions across the depth and breadth of our community. Ideally, this effort continues the discussions that began at Pennington and contributes to the ideas and recommendations that President Tate will receive later this semester. Your voice and perspective are critical elements of developing these values and visions.
In addition, we have collectively organized the strategic planning effort at both the System and Flagship levels. Two separate plans will be developed to enable efforts across the state and here at the Flagship Campus. This effort is intended to be inclusive, collaborative, and purposeful to develop a very clear path forward and to operationalize the Scholarship First Agenda. This planning effort will begin with the current strategic plan, LSU Strategic Plan 2025, and continue many of the ideas and initiatives described in that important document. We have gathered numerous individuals from across the university for this effort and everyone’s voice and perspective are valued and appreciated.
The Office of Strategy will continue to update our community on the progress of this exciting initiative through our strategic plan website. We welcome collaboration as we move forward together. Through these efforts we will transform our aspirations into reality and provide a clear road map that will drive the change we want to see at LSU.
Forever LSU,
Mark D. Bieger
Vice President of Strategy
