First LSU Giving Day Aims for 1,860 Donors in 24 Hours

LSU Giving Day is on April 30, 2019.

LSU’s inaugural Giving Day will be Tuesday, April 30, from 12 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. Gifts of $5 or more made online at geauxgive.lsu.edu will count toward the university’s goal of 1,860 donors in 24 hours, as well as toward the university’s $1.5 billion Fierce for the Future Campaign goal, announced March 28, 2019. Be counted by giving $5 or more to the College of Science's Excellence and Innovation Fund.

The 1,860-donor goal for LSU Giving Day honors the founding year of LSU. April 30 is the anniversary of the dedication of the flagship campus in Baton Rouge on April 30, 1926.

LSU alumni and friends have generously put forth more than two dozen challenge gifts, totaling a potential $420,500 in matching support, to encourage fellow Tigers to join them in making LSU Giving Day a success. In addition to challenge gifts focused on specific academic colleges and unit, there are four overarching LSU challenges:

  • Student Challenge: The 50th student to give will unlock $2,000, and the 75th student to give will unlock $3,000, for the Student Emergency Support Fund, which helps students who need immediate financial relief after natural disasters and other emergencies.
  • Gold Challenge: The 100th LSU alumnus from the classes of 2008 through 2018 to give will unlock $5,000 for the LSU Fund, which creates extraordinary experiences for students, faculty and staff.
  • Power Hour Challenge: The unit with the most Tigers to give between 4 and 5 p.m. will unlock $5,000 for their unit’s excellence fund, which creates extraordinary experiences for students, faculty and staff.
  • 1860 Challenge: When LSU reaches the goal of 1,860 Tigers giving, donors will unlock $10,000 for the LSU General Scholarship Fund.

LSU Giving Day is an opportunity for the worldwide Tiger community to rally together to support LSU students, faculty and staff in driving solutions to global issues that are acute in Louisiana and impacting the world. Further, gifts by LSU alumni directly contribute to LSU’s alumni giving ranking, currently third in the Southeastern Conference.

LSU Giving Day is part of LSU’s $1.5 billion Fierce for the Future Campaign, the largest campaign for higher education in the history of Louisiana. Fierce for the Future unites LSU’s campuses statewide in pursuit of a common goal: to generate solutions for the people in Louisiana that hold the promise of making profoundly positive impacts around the world.
