Amy Commander Receives the 2020 Chemistry Outstanding Staff Award

image of Amy CommanderThe LSU Chemistry Outstanding Staff Award was established to recognize staff employees within the department who demonstrate superior work performance and service. The LSU Department of Chemistry proudly recognized Mrs. Amy Commander as the 2020 Outstanding Staff Award recipient.

Before joining the Department of Chemistry, Mrs. Commander worked as an office coordinator for the LSU School of Social Work for three years. In February 2003, Amy transferred to the Department of Chemistry as the Human Resource Manager. For the past 17 years, Mrs. Commander has managed the department’s employee recruitment efforts by preparing job descriptions, posting ads and managing the hiring process. She also assists with performance management processes, payroll, promotions, and human resource trainings and policies.

Accompanying Mrs. Commander’s nomination were glowing letters of recommendation from fellow staff members and faculty. “I have had the honor of working with Mrs. Commander since 2004,” wrote Gretchen Schneider, Manager of Public Relations and Community Outreach. “She models professionalism with compassion. She truly listens to others and will help them find viable solutions to their issues.”

Attres Tagge, Assistant to the Chair and Amy’s direct supervisor, commends Amy as a “truly devoted member of our staff and goes above and beyond to ensure all things HR related are processed accurately and timely.” Recognizing Mrs. Commander’s dedication and diligence, Mrs. Tagge stated, “Her longevity in the department, hard work, attention to detail, and availability at all hours exemplifies the meaning of an outstanding staff member.”

It is with great pride and admiration that the department congratulates Mrs. Amy Commander for the 2020 Chemistry Outstanding Staff Award. The department looks forward to many more excellent years of her individual and collective contributions.
