A postdoctoral research position is available in the laboratory of Paul South at Louisiana State University for the development, testing, and validation of genetic constructs to engineer improved photosynthesis through modification of photorespiration in plants. Genetic constructs will need to be engineered for plants including tobacco, potato, tomato, rice, soybean, and cowpea. The goal of the research position is to generate improved photosynthetic efficiency through alternative photorespiration metabolism. The postdoctoral position is currently funded for two years with opportunity for renewal.
55% Perform experiments in synthetic biology, molecular biology, biochemistry and
plant physiology on transgenic plants;
15% Design implement and direct research team in experiments;
10% Train research team on experiments and experimental design;
10% Design and implement requirements and regulations for laboratory and field experiments;
10% Manage DNA assembly, sequencing, storage and transformation of DNA into plants used in photorespiratory bypass pipeline.
PhD in Plant biology, Plant physiology, Biochemistry, Molecular biology, or similar
field of study.
