Greetings from Namibia!

[16 Sept 2022] Dr. Phil Stouffer is on sabbatical for the academic year, working at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) in Windhoek.

Greetings from Namibia! I'm  based at the Biodiversity Research Center, which is part of the NUST agriculture and natural resources department.

So far, I’ve mostly been working with students on design, analysis, and reporting results.   We’re also planning bird surveys in a giant parcel of wildlife-friendly private land that forms a buffer between Etosha National Park and commercial farms to the south.  The buffer is critical for reducing human-wildlife conflict on farms with lions, elephants,  cheetahs, and hyenas.

The high density of elephants has pronounced effects on vegetation, and I hope to monitor how that, in turn, affects avian biodiversity.  You can see some photos of lions, elephants, and multiple species of zebras (who knew?) at  my flickr site.
