Upward Bound

The LSU Upward Bound Program is a FREE college preparatory program for eligible 9-12 graders. Participants receive academic advising, tutoring, college and career counseling, social and cultural enrichment, opportunities to visit college campuses, and much more! Upward Bound is here to provide participants with the keys to unlock their full academic potential and help them make their dreams a reality.

Update:

During the COVID-19 outbreak, we will continue to provide services to our students remotely via online classrooms, private servers, and virtual contacts with our staff. Our priorities are the safety and success of our students. For any concerns about interrupted services, please contact upwardbound@lsu.edu

Nothing! LSU Upward Bound is absolutely free to participants. In fact, regular participants that meet attendance and grade requirements can even earn a stipend!

Yes! Though we primarily serve Tara and Woodlawn High Schools, we are able to invite students from other local area high schools. If you are interested in participating, please reach out.

Yes! We arrange for our students to visit local and sometimes regional college campuses. We know how important it is for you to find the right fit for your college journey.

To join LSU Upward Bound, you must meet our eligibility criteria (check out our Application Process page)! Once you fill out an application, we will invite you to an interview.

LSU Upward Bound will register for four tests for its participants.

Both are standardized tests used for college admissions requirements. The ACT is scored from 1-36, while the SAT is scored from 400-1600. LSU Upward Bound will only pay for ACT tests and includes ACT prep in its programming.

Absolutely. LSU Upward Bound does have a minimum attendance policy, so as long as that is met, you can participate in other activities as well!
