LSU Named One of America’s Best Value Colleges by Forbes
LSU ranked as best value in Louisiana, 4th among public universities in the SEC
BATON ROUGE – LSU is rated as the best value university in Louisiana and 69th among public universities across the country in Forbes 2019 America’s Best Value Colleges rankings.
Among public SEC peers, LSU is the fourth best value, ranked ahead of Auburn University, University of Alabama, University of Kentucky, University of Tennessee and University of Missouri, among others. LSU is ranked 110th overall in the latest America’s Best Value Colleges list.
“We are pleased that Forbes ranked LSU as the best value university in Louisiana and among the top of the SEC in their latest America’s Best Value Colleges rankings,” said LSU President F. King Alexander. “These are the types of rankings that utilize outcome measures that truly matter to parents and students. Outcomes such as low student debt, high alumni earnings and increased access for low-income students are important to us and are something we focus on every day for our current and future students.”
Further breaking down the rankings, LSU is the 20th best value among the 50 public flagship universities, 17th best value among public land grant universities and 41st best value among public research universities.
Forbes has released their America’s Best Value Colleges ranking for the last four years “to help students and their families evaluate the likely return on their investment.” For the ranking of 300 schools, Forbes scored universities on quality; net price; net debt; alumni earnings; timely graduation; and access for low-income students. The list evaluates institutions offering four-year degrees and does not include private for-profit schools.
Alexander has long been a proponent of universities publicizing their outcome measures. Forbes utilizes two sources, Payscale and the College Scorecard, which show direct results and return on investment for students attending a university.
According to Payscale, a student who earns a bachelor’s degree from LSU has early career earnings of $53,500 and mid-career earnings of $101,300 – the highest among all public universities in Louisiana. When considering all alumni who attended LSU, graduates have early career earnings of $54,600 and mid-career earnings of $103,300 – also the highest among Louisiana public universities.
