LSU Announces Jeremiah Shinn as the New Vice President for Student Affairs
BATON ROUGE – LSU is proud to announce and welcome Jeremiah Shinn as the university’s new vice president for student affairs. Shinn, who currently serves as associate vice president in the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at Boise State University, will be responsible for strategizing and leading the university’s efforts to increase student engagement and success.
“We are pleased to welcome Jeremiah Shinn to the LSU leadership team,” said LSU President F. King Alexander. “Dr. Shinn has broad knowledge and understanding of all aspects of student affairs, and we look forward to leveraging his expertise to enhance the LSU experience for our students.”
In this role, Shinn will directly report to the executive vice president and provost and provide clear leadership over student affairs.
“Dr. Shinn’s background in student engagement and retention, and his significant work with Greek Affairs positions him well to have high impact at LSU,” said Stacia Haynie, executive vice president and provost. “I’m honored to welcome him into the LSU community, and am confident that our university will benefit from his leadership.”
Shinn brings more than 19 years of professional experience in higher education in the areas of Greek Affairs, Student Leadership Development, Civic Engagement Programs, Student Government, Residential Life, Campus Recreation, Career Services and New Student Programs. In previous roles at various institutions, Shinn served as assistant dean of students, associate director of student activities, director of student involvement and leadership center, associate vice president for student affairs and assistant vice president for student life.
“I’m thankful for the opportunity to join an institution that is drawing from the richness of its history to grow and evolve in service to its community, its state and the world,” Shinn said. “I look forward to serving LSU students alongside such a talented and committed team.”
Shinn’s wealth of experience will enable him to fulfill key responsibilities as vice president for student affairs, including: developing a campus environment conducive to student success; overseeing strategic initiatives with campus constituents that positively impact the retention of students; serving as the primary advocate for students by leading efforts to support student life; and engaging, retaining and graduating a dynamic and academically competitive student body, among other duties.
“Dr. Shinn is a strategic leader who will help the Division of Student Affairs form clear vision,” said Stewart Lockett, LSU’s outgoing student body president. “His diligence and organization will assist in transforming our student body in and out the classroom.”
Shinn is expected to begin as LSU vice president for student affairs no later than July 1, pending approval by the LSU Board of Supervisors.
