LSU Researchers Present at World’s Largest Earth and Space Sciences Conference
BATON ROUGE – LSU faculty, students and staff will present more than 80 research talks, posters, press conferences and events at the largest Earth and space sciences conference in the world, the American Geophysical Union, or AGU. From Dec. 10-14, more than 20,000 scientists will convene in Washington, D.C., for the centennial AGU Fall Meeting. Researchers from multiple disciplines across LSU will present their research spanning the physical and life sciences that increases our understanding of Earth, sea and space.
Members of the media can register to attend the AGU Fall Meeting for free. Typically, more than 250 reporters from news agencies around the world attend. LSU researchers are available to speak with media about their science through a press conference and one-on-one interviews.
AGU will present a press conference on the following LSU research:
Penguins! From space
LSU Department of Oceanography & Coastal Sciences Assistant Professor Michael Polito and colleagues who were part of the science team that led the expedition to document the supercolony of penguins on the remote Danger Islands in Antarctica will present new results from their research conducted on the expedition, including new, unpublished information on the age of the supercolony. NASA satellite imagery of the penguins’ bright pink poop, or guano, helped the scientists first pinpoint the location of the supercolony of Adélie penguins. In this press conference, the scientists will report new findings from the refined tools and techniques they’ve developed since the expedition to study penguins from space. This press conference will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 11, from 2:00-2:45 p.m. (EST) in the Press Conference Room (Marriott Marquis, level M3, Shaw/LeDroit Park room). It will be livestreamed.
For more information during the conference, visit the LSU booth #1640 in the AGU Exhibit Hall.
