The LSU Center for River Studies houses the largest physical model of the lower Mississippi River portraying 14,000 square miles of southeastern Louisiana. Scientists and engineers can simulate the levels and flow of water and sediment that occurs over one year on the Mississippi River in one hour on the river model to study these complex processes.

The river model covers 179 miles of the Mississippi River from Donaldsonville to the Bird’s Foot Delta. Twenty high-definition projectors illuminate the model and bring Louisiana’s dynamic river, delta and coast to life.

The center houses educational exhibits and a small theater where groups can learn more about the environmental and engineering features of the river delta. The center is made possible through a partnership with the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority, or CPRA.
