LSU Spring Greening Day and Sustainability Expo to be Held April 20

BATON ROUGE – The seventh annual Spring Greening Day and Sustainability Expo will be held at LSU on Thursday, April 20, from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Students, staff, faculty and community volunteers will participate in beautification, mulching and erosion control projects with leadership and direction provided by LSU Landscape Services. Plants, mulch and supplies are supplied by this year’s sponsors: BASF, LSU Student Government and Landscape Services. This program provides students the unique opportunity to serve alongside staff and administrators and learn sound environmental practices, while allowing the university to maximize landscaping resources in a creative way.

BASF is providing lunch for volunteers, and every volunteer will receive a t-shirt. Work sites include Greek Amphitheatre, Howe-Russell, Law Center, Memorial Tower and Life Sciences.

The Sustainability Expo will be held in Free Speech Plaza from 9 a.m. to noon and will feature organizations such as BREC Conservation, BASF, Bike Baton Rouge, Entergy, Republic Recycling, CACRC, Louisiana Green Schools, TULIPA, the LSU Sustainable Agriculture Club, the Hill Farm at LSU and the Sierra Student Coalition, all presenting information related to their programs and offering tips on how to live more sustainably.

LSU President F. King Alexander will speak at the event and then plant a tree at the Greek Amphitheatre to celebrate LSU’s sixth year of being honored with Tree Campus USA recognition by the Arbor Day Foundation for its commitment to effective urban forest management. Tree Campus USA is a national program created in 2008 by the Arbor Day Foundation to honor colleges and universities for effective campus forest management and for engaging staff and students in conservation goals. Currently, there are 254 campuses across the United States with this recognition.

Those interested in volunteering can register through TigerLink at or at the Volunteer Tent on the Parade Ground the Day of the event.
