Five Cadets to be Commissioned at ROTC Ceremony
BATON ROUGE – As part of LSU’s 291st commencement exercises, degree candidates who took part in ROTC will be commissioned as second lieutenants from the LSU Army ROTC program. The ceremony will be held on Thursday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m. in the Dalton J. Woods Auditorium in the Energy, Coast & Environment Building. Three graduates from LSU, along with two graduates from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette that took part in LSU’s Army ROTC program, will be commissioned.
Col. Cindy Haygood, a 1991 graduate of LSU, will serve as keynote speaker for the ceremony. Haygood graduated from Leesville High School of Leesville, La., in 1985. She received a Bachelor of Arts in economics from LSU. She received her commission from Louisiana Army National Guard, Officer Candidate School in 1994 as the Distinguished Honor Graduate.
Haygood is a graduate of the Engineer Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Intermediate Level Education Course, Advanced Operations Course and U.S. Army War College. Her awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal (w/1 OLC), the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal (2nd award), Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (5th award), the National Defense Medal (2nd award), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Service Medal (2nd award), Humanitarian Service Medal (2nd award), Iraq Campaign Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (2nd award), Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon, the LA Cross of Merit, the LA Commendation Medal (2nd award), the LA Retention Ribbon, the LA Emergency Service Ribbon and the LA Longevity Ribbon.
Haygood mobilized and served as Battalion Executive Officer during Operation Iraqi Freedom in Multinational Division-Baghdad and during Operations Katrina and Rita. She is a recipient of the Brigadier General Edmund J. Giering Outstanding Company Commander in the Engineer Regiment for 1999, and the Bronze de Fleury Medal in 2008.
Haygood and her husband, Bill Haygood, of Monroe, La., and their two children, Madeline and Lauren, reside in Gonzales, La. She is a market sales executive for Capital One Bank and has been employed with Capital One for 20 years.
