BATON ROUGE – A group of students, faculty and administrators from the LSU Flores
MBA Program visited Albemarle Corporation’s (NYSE: ALB) Shanghai office on Wednesday,
Oct. 22, for a hands-on introduction into the company’s global operations. The visit
was part of a two-week graduate course focused on doing business abroad and included
an interactive presentation on Albemarle’s presence in the Asia Pacific region as
well as a tour of its picturesque office in the Pudong New Development District in
During the trip, students visited several companies across many industries and had
the opportunity to meet and interact with their leaders in order to learn more about
business challenges and career opportunities within the global economy.
“Among the multiple companies we visited, Albemarle stood out for its unique manufacturing
assets, state-of-the-art facilities as well as its top-notch R&D and technical capabilities,”
said Will Phillips, LSU Executive MBA student. “It was inspiring to see a Baton Rouge-based
company like Albemarle succeeding in an extremely cost-competitive market like China
through its innovation and technology.”
This opportunity stemmed from Albemarle’s existing partnership with LSU and the Flores
MBA Program as part of its focus on industry-university collaboration. These partnerships
enhance Albemarle’s strengths as an innovator, as its employees are able to network
and leverage the ideas and talents of academic institutes and their students. Students
also gain breadth and exposure that can open the door to valuable career opportunities.
“The LSU Flores MBA Program has an invaluable corporate partner in Albemarle,” said
Dana Hart, LSU Flores MBA Program Interim Director. “The opportunity to meet with
local Albemarle executives provided the students a glimpse of global operations in
action and shed light on working life in China. We’re thankful for all that Albemarle
does to support our program.”
“We were very excited to visit the Shanghai office of our hometown-based company,
Albemarle,” added Young Chun, LSU Flores MBA Program professor. “I deeply appreciate
their warm hospitality during the visit and truly look forward to visiting them again
with another group of MBA students in the near future.”
