BATON ROUGE – On Tuesday, Nov. 18, the LSU International Programs will host an International Research Fair. The fair, themed “Diversity, Collaboration, Engagement” is a forum for visiting scholars at LSU to showcase their research and to interact and engage with colleagues and the LSU community.

Attendees will have the opportunity to observe dynamic 10 to 15 minute presentations on a variety of topics featuring scholars in the fields of pathobiological sciences, chemistry, physics, mathematics and political philosophy. There will also be opportunities to explore visiting scholars’ research endeavors, connect with friends and colleagues and expand professional networks.

The event will be held in the Atchafalaya Room of the LSU Student Union from 9-11 a.m. The event coincides with International Education Week, which falls on the third week of November each year, when more than 100 countries celebrate the benefits of international education.

Visiting scholars come to the United States on a J-1/J-2 Exchange Visitor visa. The J Exchange Visitor visa program was developed to implement the Mutual Educational and Cultural Exchange Act of 1961. The overall purpose of that act – and the objective of the Exchange Visitor Program – is to increase mutual understanding between the people of the U.S. and the people of other countries by means of educational and cultural exchanges. Entities can become Exchange Visitor Program sponsors by applying for designation from the Department of State. LSU sponsors Exchange Visitors primarily in the Research Scholar category.

LSU’s Exchange Visitor Program is administered through the International Services office in LSU International Programs, which hosts nearly 100 exchange visitors from around the world at any given time. Over the course of a given year, more than 150 exchange visitors will have participated. These scholars come to LSU to conduct research, teach, train and observe. Currently, LSU is hosting more than 90 exchange visitors from across the globe

The presence of exchange visitors at LSU promotes diversity and awareness of other cultures, peoples and languages; and a greater understanding, appreciation, and respect for other cultures. LSU’s Exchange Visitor Program provides valuable, research, educational and cultural experiences for both Exchange Visitors and the LSU community.

LSU International Programs contributes to the Flagship Agenda through its work to facilitate the mobility of students and faculty around the world. Enhancing intercultural learning experiences, international leadership, and multinational collaboration and partnerships on our campus will attract highly productive faculty and excellent students at all levels.
