BATON ROUGE – The LSU Student Union Theater and Of Moving Colors are collaborating
in an open audition for modern dancers for two different projects, OMC Company auditions
and “Racine D’or,” or “The Golden Root.”
OMC is looking for experienced dancers who have had training and/or professional experience
in dance, preferably modern. Ballet training is helpful. Dancers participate in residencies,
classes and workshops with local and world-class professionals. The creative process
for some works also includes improvisations in dance, vocalizations and theatre. Company
members are paid a small stipend for rehearsals and performances. Dancers meet for
training and rehearsals for approximately nine to twelve hours a week, with more rehearsals
during production times.
The LSU Student Union Theater’s 2013-14 season will include “Racine D’or,” an original
modern dance created by New York City-based Movement Workshop Group performing Saturday,
Nov. 2, at 7:30 p.m. This piece is inspired by Cajun folklore and includes live music
by four-time Grammy nominee Cedric Watson et Bijou Creole.
Auditions for “Racine D’or” are to select and incorporate up to 10 local dancers in
the premiere modern dance. The choreography will be taught by LSU Adjunct Professor
Christine Chrest, and rehearsals will be on Sunday evenings at the LSU Dance Studio,
located in the LSU Music & Dramatic Arts Building.
PLEASE NOTE: These auditions are combined. Dancers may indicate their desire to audition
for either project or both.
For further information or group discount pricing, please call Terry Serio, assistant
theater director, at 225-578-6013 or email email@example.com.
The performance of “Racine D’or” is funded in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the Louisiana Division of the Arts.
